DENISE GOES TO WASHINGTON! Oh Boy!

Guess who’s going to DC?  Let the fireworks begin!

Most of you know Denise by now, but for those of you that do not, she is my daughter. She’s also my Advocate, my educator, my boss, my friend, my security guard, my Foxhole buddy, and my nurse.  I think that covers it.  If you want more of the 411 on her, go back to Post #3, My Golden Tribal Circle.  I have a picture and a brief paragraph about her.

She’s smart, pragmatic and serious, and she keeps the rest of us on the straight and narrow.

So in the interest of keeping you posted on my New Journey, I want to tell you what’s been going on while I’ve been building the Daisy List Brand.

Back in 2016 my daughter decided to go for 1 of her goals on her Daisy List.  She has long awaited an opportunity to transfer to a job in Wash, DC.  She’s always been a career company girl and is determined to go to the top of whatever ladder she’s on.

She has 2 degrees and is currently working on her PhD.  She is what you would call a career student or a perpetual learner.

In anticipation of getting her new assignment Denise sold her home and came to live with me for about a year.  After what she had done for me through my personal tsunami, I was more than thrilled to help her out, and God knows I was thrilled just to have her living with me.  (I think)?

As Denise would say, don’t get it twisted, we both knew it was temporary, so it was no problem.  Neither one of us could do it on a long term basis.  Two strong opinonated woman, oh boy!  We could do next door very well, no sweat, but under the same roof, it might end up as a crime scene.  Just kidding!

Well her assignment finally came through, big promotion, big raise, job of her DREAMS, and with all the perks.

When her brother found out about her new assignment, he phoned friends and family and advised everyone to start watching TV, because we would probably see her on the Senate Floor very shortly, trying to tell Congress how things should be done.

“Please all raise, Denise has a speech to make!”

Denise and I have visited the area, and she’s found new living quarters, things are moving along.

But you know me, I have to share the humor.  Denise has a cat, his name is Jake, I LOVE Jake, but not really interested in having my own pets.  I like them all, but I don’t want to take care of any.    While they were here with me, I had to learn how to adjust to Jake’s habits more than I had to learn how to adjust to Denise’s habits.  And I’m not kidding.

Cats are known for attitude, I’m here to tell you it’s all true.  Talk about attitude.  In the beginning I was ready to lock him in the closet while Denise was at work.  But then of course I got seriously attached to him.  I found myself talking to Jake all day.  As a matter of fact our conversations were so much more enjoyable than my conversations with Denise.

Whenever I said something to Jake, he agreed with it.  He always gave me a polite “meow”, and I knew that meant he agreed with whatever I said.  Denise and I agree on very little.  I’d love to list a few things, but can’t divulge any secrets here.

So by the time of her move, I was dealing with missing Jake more than Denise.  Yea, well no, still not interested in getting a pet of my own.  Not even a bird or fish, “whatever”.  But I do know I’m going to miss Jake.  It was so nice to have someone to tell all your secrets and no chance of anyone leaking them.

The interesting part of the story is that while Denise is fulfilling one of the things on her Daisy List, I inadvertently am fulfilling a couple of mine.

On our first scouting trip, looking for a place for her to live, we came across a favorite spot of mine that I have wanted to visit for years.  It’s called Busboys and Poets.  It’s a well-known book store and restaurant in the DC area.  I’ve watched Book TV on C-span for years, and they have held many events there.  Every time I saw one of the events, I’d write it on one of my list” as a place to visit and then I would forget about it.  Well not any more.

One of my favorite things is books and reading.  If I wouldn’t go cross eyed, I’d read all day.  But in this place, you can read, get a full meal, and be entertained by local artists all in the same place.  Close to heaven for me.  This little book bag will always be full on my visits to Busboy and Poets, and I plan to visit often.

The second connection to my Daisy List is the Annual DC Book Festival.  Again every year I would watch it on TV.  I’d tell my daughter and my friends I wanted to go and I always made plans with them, and then the last minute they would cancel out.  For years I said I was going to go by myself, and again, I’d put it on “my list and then forget about it.

Every time I would remember it, it was too late to make decent reservations, the place was always packed.  Well guess what, this year I get to go free, no hotel, and no reservations necessary.

Just one of those Dreams on my back burner, and here it is.  Isn’t it amazing how things work?

I think the lesson here is that it’s not always YOU seeking the Dreams on your Daisy List, sometimes it’s the Dreams on our Daisy List seeking us.  The two above found me.

PUT IT OUT THERE, AND THE UNIVERSE WILL

BRING IT TO YOU!

“Remember your Dreams and fight for them.  You must know what you want from life.  There is just one thing that makes your Dream impossible: the fear of failure!”
