ADVERSITY – Lessons or Blessings

 LESSONS or BLESSINGS

Hello Daisy List readers,               POST 2020-16

Previously I told you about a flood at my home back in May.  It resulted in a complete demo, and I had to quarantine for almost 3 months at a hotel.  What an experience, but lots of time to reflect on the “LESSONS” of my dilemma.

Lesson #1  –  As the demolition people were packing my ENTIRE house into a POD truck to be sent to a storage facility, I realized I had way, way too much “stuff!”  I couldn’t give it away, donate it, or throw it out fast enough.  OMG, it was a TON of “stuff”

Lesson #2  –  It’s an old clique but it rings true every time.  “things could be worse”.  As awful as I thought my situation was, once I really looked at it from another view point, I realized how many of my friends and family were dealing with MUCH, MUCH worse.

I thought about the all the people dying of COVID-19.  People losing their jobs, being evicted for not paying rent.  People dealing with devastating hurricanes or storms living in temporary shelters, no where to bath, no clean clothes, sleeping on a cot, two feet away from another displaced person, and worried about the safety of their children and I straightened right out.

No complaining, no complaining, no complaining, I had nothing to complain about.  I knew on some level my situation would change soon, but for so many others, it would not.

Then came the “BLESSINGS”

Blessing #1 I had home insurance, I was in a clean safe Hotel, I had plenty of food to eat, clean clothes and an excellent referral to a GREAT contractor that was going to help me put my home back together.

Blessing #2  – I was back in my home in just under 3 months.  Newly painted walls, new ceilings, and new floors, practically a new home.

Everything looks so clean and brand new and I’m so grateful for everything.  But I still take note of how much “STUFF” I have and I plan to deal with that on an ongoing basis.

I ultimately watched a lot of television because of the quarantine, but I found 2 home decorators that have become favorites.

@Rebeccarobeson & @madebycarli

I learned so many things from both of them.  Based on their tips, I’ve learned how to reuse and repurpose things instead of constantly buying, buying, and buying new “STUFF”.

I’ve reversed pictures, mirrors, art work and repurposed miscellaneous items from the first floor to the second floor and vice versus.  (I’d love to move my bedroom downstairs if I could, running up and down the stairs 50 times a day is getting on my nerves.  Run” is the joke word here.)

I’ve made PARIS my overall theme and the color scheme is Navy and white, with a splash of color here and there.  My heart belongs to EAST COAST USA but my soul belongs to PARIS.

I’m far from finished but I wanted to share some of the rooms so far.  I plan to incorporate many more of Rebecca and madebycarli ideas going forward.

NEW BED LINENS FOR THE MASTER

NEW PARIS CHAIR with a hint of XMAS CHEER

So, I’m having a ball purging my “STUFF!”  Giving away things, Goodwill donations, Habitat store, 1 800 GOT JUNK, and GOD bless the shredder!  You name it, it all feels so good.  Once I started, I couldn’t stop!  And just wait for Spring Cleaning! WOW!

Time to keep it moving
